SOLDIER'S DISEASE

THE GIFT OF SOUND AND VISION

I’ve been taking videos of live shows for a while now but haven’t found the right zone to post them. So here’s me saying “fuck it” and shoving a few of them at you in this post. Below are videos from Cold Cave, Prurient, Chelsea Wolfe and Cult of Youth, all filmed by me in Los Angeles over the past week.

Chelsea WolfeMoses – Live at the Echo in Los Angeles, July 23, 2011. From her amazing LP on Pendu SoundThe Grime and the Glow

Cult of YouthCold Black Earth & The Devil’s Coals – Live at the Echo in Los Angeles, July 24, 2011. Respectively from their DAIS LP “A Stick to Bind, a Seed to Grow” and their new 7″ on Blind Prophet Recordings “The Devil’s Coals“.

Prurient – Live at the Ukranian Cultural Center in Los Angeles, July 27, 2011. Songs are: A Meal Can Be Made, Watch Silently, Cocaine Death, There Are Still Secrets. Cocaine Death is from the CD/CS release of the same name, and everything else is from the new LP/CD/CS on Hydra Head.

Cold CaveBurning Sage – Live at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Los Angeles, July 27, 2011. This song is off their most recent LP “Cherish the Light Years” on Matador.

A CREEK RUNS THROUGH IT

These photos were taken in the once-flooded basement of Kink.com‘s Armory, with an decaying shooting gallery at one end, and Mission Creek running fenced-off at the other end. The paint is flaking off the walls and there are numerous eroded cement channels with streams running through the floor. I was told a story about Peter Acworth taking the employees on a tour down there, stating the water was safe and clean, and illustrating this point by scooping up a handful and drinking it. The last photo is from some mounts in the ceiling behind the shooting gallery where someone was tied to and had water sprayed up at them (I haven’t viewed the scene yet but I must admit I’m curious).

New mix by one of the deep crew, psycho KHR from Michigan. He runs the mighty fine Nurse Etiquette label and all of its subsidiaries (Annex Scum, Gifts of Vacant Mortuary, etc), which I hear will be morphing into Nostilevo. We operated dismal scrap metal sound together under the guise of Chainfight. Khris’ current incarnation is the intruiguingly named Scorpio & Glass, who has had a handful of releases on cassette, one of which was on previous mixtape contributor Ryan Martin’s Robert & Leopold label. Rumor has it that he’s working on a follow-up to this mix, so keep your ears peeled for that one.

REAR WINDOW

These were all scanned before I started this site with a certain project in mind, but it never materialized properly. Some of the defects in the scans are from wear on the pages, other from scratches in the glass of my old scanner.

More visually arresting interior design from the late 60s.
