SEWER TRANSMISSION

My friend Jonathan Canady made this great mix for the site. You may know him from his latest post-punk-meets-kraut project Diamond Cult, album covers he’s designed, and last but most certainly not least his own insane maze of psychosexual paintings. Forthcoming is an hour-long synthesizer horror excursion titled “Am I Dreaming? Yellow” via cassette on Chondritic Sound.

STEAM UP
Good friend and amazing musician Damion Romero (known for his earth-moving heavy tonal work under his own name, and previously as Speculum Fight) offered up a recording of a radio show he’d done over 8 years ago playing exclusively Steam Engine records, something he has an impressive collection of. So that brings us here, where you can hear some of his favorite sounds from of these now extinct beasts.

THE GIFT OF SOUND AND VISION
I’ve been taking videos of live shows for a while now but haven’t found the right zone to post them. So here’s me saying “fuck it” and shoving a few of them at you in this post. Below are videos from Cold Cave, Prurient, Chelsea Wolfe and Cult of Youth, all filmed by me in Los Angeles over the past week.
Chelsea Wolfe – Moses – Live at the Echo in Los Angeles, July 23, 2011. From her amazing LP on Pendu Sound “The Grime and the Glow”
Cult of Youth – Cold Black Earth & The Devil’s Coals – Live at the Echo in Los Angeles, July 24, 2011. Respectively from their DAIS LP “A Stick to Bind, a Seed to Grow” and their new 7″ on Blind Prophet Recordings “The Devil’s Coals“.
Prurient – Live at the Ukranian Cultural Center in Los Angeles, July 27, 2011. Songs are: A Meal Can Be Made, Watch Silently, Cocaine Death, There Are Still Secrets. Cocaine Death is from the CD/CS release of the same name, and everything else is from the new LP/CD/CS on Hydra Head.
Cold Cave – Burning Sage – Live at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Los Angeles, July 27, 2011. This song is off their most recent LP “Cherish the Light Years” on Matador.
STREETCLEANER
New mix by one of the deep crew, psycho KHR from Michigan. He runs the mighty fine Nurse Etiquette label and all of its subsidiaries (Annex Scum, Gifts of Vacant Mortuary, etc), which I hear will be morphing into Nostilevo. We operated dismal scrap metal sound together under the guise of Chainfight. Khris’ current incarnation is the intruiguingly named Scorpio & Glass, who has had a handful of releases on cassette, one of which was on previous mixtape contributor Ryan Martin’s Robert & Leopold label. Rumor has it that he’s working on a follow-up to this mix, so keep your ears peeled for that one.

THREE POSSIBILITIES AS INCONSISTENT FUTURISTS
Here’s a fresh new mix by my friend Ryan Martin, co-founder of the mighty fine DAIS Records and heavy cassette label Robert & Leopold. He also pushes grit as part of York Factory Complaint. There’s some truly messed up stuff in here, including previously unreleased COUM Transmissions recordings.

STRANGERS DIE EVERY DAY

This is a mix I made while still living in Michigan that’s been floating on various memory cards until just a few days ago. Unfortunately I can’t place the piece between the Burning Star Core/Prurient collab and the Nate Young track as I’ve lost the tracklist for this mix some time ago. I like to fall asleep during the hazy moments of this one, engage in some horrific dream and let Jagger’s synth workout at the end be my alarm clock.
